Warp Film Case Study: This is England

This is England was financed by Warp films and Film 4 productions it cost £1,500,000 (estimated)  and made $8,176,544 (worldwide) in my opinion this was Largely aimed at a british audience because it strongly represents England in many ways, there is a lack of stars and all actors are british, also because of it's lack of marketing. The fact that it's a small budget movie is risky because it's awareness level will be low and it's an independent film so it will therefore have a niche audience and won't make much money back. The film was distributed by IFC Films (USA) and Optimum Releasing (UK) The movie was distributed in 62 Screens (UK) and 1 screen in the US during it's opening weekend.Since the budget for this movie was small they couldn't spend a lot of money on marketing and advertising so they're most powerful way of getting noticed was word of mouth which is free and usually brings out an average audience.

This movie was shown in art house cinemas because it's an independent movie and it's audience wasn't very big due to it's lack in advertising. The movie made $8,176,544 Worldwide.

Warp Films is an independent company that only makes movies targeted at a british audience it is not owned by an american conglomerate it's much smaller than working title, which does movies aimed at an international audience and owned by Universal , working titles also makes movies for financial values, Warp films doesn't, because they're box office targets are much lower. Warp films success is partly due to the help of channel4 and bbc.

Warp Film Case Study: Four Lions

Four Lions was Financed by Warp films and Film 4 Productions it cost under a million $ and made
$4,658,570 worldwide. In my opinion it was aimed at a british audience because of it's lack of stars, location, british humor and lack of marketing.
This is a risky film to invest in because it is a independent film that is aimed at a nich audience and because it's not gonna make much money back. The film was distributed by Drafthouse films(US) and Optimum Releasing(UK) it was a distruibited to a small amount of screens (115 UK) and an even smaller amount in the US.
Since the movie had a small budget it therefore couldn't market itself very widely, word of mouth had to be used in order to draw attention. This movie was mostly shown in independent arthouse cinemas because since the marketing was very small it didn't get a lot of attention and therefore only opened in few cinemas.
On the opening weekend the movie made £608,608 (UK) and $41,512 (USA) in total it made $4,658,570

My american Film: Marketing

Posters:

This poster was the teaser, it emphasizes the alien and the fact that it made by the director of Titanic James Cameron.

This is the theatrical poster, it reveals more of the landscape and characters it also shows a flying animal,  this emphasizes the fact that it's a sci-fy action movie.

My American Case Study

My film: Avatar

Story Line: When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora. Written by The Massive Twins.

Avatar's production budget was
$237,000,000 and made a gross of $2,782,275,172 (Worldwide)
